CHRIS PORTER is a Los Angeles-based composer of concert works, film scores, theater music, and other performance events. Often working or collaborating as a sound designer and/or writer, his projects have have been seen and heard both across the country and around the globe.
CONCERT WORK/PERFORMANCE EVENTS
Chris has received commissions from a wide array of groups such as the 2009 Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium Virgin Ears Workshop Series and The Machine Project Little William Theater|Festival of New Music. The Machine Project also commissioned a piece from Chris (Brass Ring), which was performed on the Santa Monica Carousel as part of the 2010 GLOW Festival on the Santa Monica Pier.
FILMChris worked as the co-writer, sound supervisor, composer, and lyricist on Twinkle Trails, a web series (directed by Davis Vu) developed in 2011 as part of Little Lives--an educational software program being implemented in Singapore. Chris was nominated for Best Original Score for a Short Film in the 2010 Detroit Independent Film Festival for his work in Playing House (directed by Joshua Courtade). Piece of Cake, a short directed by Eliza Ivanova and featuring music by Chris, was a finalist in the 2010 Student Academy Awards.
THEATERIn 2011, Chris worked as the composer and musical director on The House of Bernarda Alba, written by Federico Garcia Lorca and directed by Julianne Just, which was performed in the Walt Disney Modular Theater at California Institute of the Arts. Chris co-adapted, wrote, composed, and performed in a 2010 theatrical adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Witches (a production featuring songs, animations, shadows, and puppets among many other surprises).
